The International Journal of Welsh Writing in English offers up-to-date research on Welsh literature in the English language, Welsh drama/performance in English, translation, cultural studies and related areas. The journal is mainly aimed at an academic readership but is also interesting to the general reader. The International Journal of Welsh Writing in English replaced Almanac: A Yearbook of Welsh Writing in English, which, in turn, replaced the Yearbook of Welsh Writing in English, which had been published since 1995. The International Journal of Welsh Writing in English is available to members of the Association of Welsh Writing in English as part of their subscription.
For full details of back-issues, and all contents lists, see the Journal’s section on the website of the Association for Welsh Writing in English.
The International Journal of Welsh Writing in English is published in October of each year. Its contents are divided between 7–8 articles and up to 10 reviews. We are also open to publishing ‘notes’ that are shorter than full articles. All contributions are in English. Articles should be between 7,000 and 10,000 words long (including notes) and must be submitted following the University of Wales Press style sheet.‘Notes’ should be between c. 1,500 and 3,000 words long. Submissions which do not follow the style sheet will not be considered for publication. No correspondence is published in the International Journal of Welsh Writing in English.
Reviews are commissioned by the Journal’s Reviews Editor and we thus do not consider unsolicited reviews. However, suitably qualified individuals who might be interested in reviewing for the Journal are invited to contact the Reviews Editor directly. Reviews of a single title are typically c. 1,000 words long, while reviews that deal with two titles are typically c. 1,500 words long.

We are particularly interested in receiving submissions that seek to broaden and develop the field of Welsh Writing in English either thematically and/or methodologically.
We are unlikely to accept submissions that do not foreground Welsh Writing in English. In other words, a submission using a geographical approach to reading Welsh writing in English would be acceptable, a submission on Welsh geography which merely refers to examples Welsh writing in English would not. The primary aim of the journal is to discuss texts, although submissions which analyse performance, for example, are also invited. We do not publish creative writing.
Provided that they reach us by 1 September of the present year, submissions may be considered for publication in the following autumn. We accept submissions throughout the year but any articles sent to us later than 1 September will not be considered for the next issue.
Please see the University of Wales Press style sheet here on this site. Submissions will not be published if they do not follow the style sheet.
Upon publication, the University of Wales Press provides all contributors (including reviewers) with a pdf e-offprint of their article/review.
Please send your submissions to email@example.com or and your review submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. There is no need to send a paper copy. You will receive a confirmation email within 10 days.
